School-Based Health Educator

New River Health Association's School-Based Health Educator is responsible for teaching workshops and hosting events at the school and within the community with the goal of assisting the students, parents, staff and community members in prevention of health and social issues. Some focus topics include Bully Prevention, Tolerance Education, Character Education, School Climate Improvement, Healthy Relationships, Sun and Summer Safety, Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention. This training is accomplished through in class workshops and partnering with other community partners to assist in workshops. The School based Health Educator also partners with groups to host events at the school such as a Parent/Student Health Fair and a Red Cross Blood Drive at the school.

The School-Based Health Educator participates in the Fayette County Youth and Family issues committe. This is a general work group of the Fayette County Family Resource Network (www.fayettefrn.com) that helps to keep citizens informed of local resources and gives citizens easy access to collaborative and educational opportunitites within Fayette County. The networking for community health outreach on such a grass roots level has proven to be a positive way to increase awareness of adolescent health needs.
